THE BROWN COUNTY RETIRED TEACHERS ASSOCIATION
NEWSLETTER VOLUME XI
This is the second newsletter of 2014. We had such a good turnout for our first meeting at the new facility in Georgetown. It was great
to see some of those that have not been able to make it out and the new faces that were there. The facilities at the Southern Hills Board of Education Building
are really very nice and accessible to all. We hope to see many of you again on June 26 at noon for our meeting. The program speaker will be Betty Jodrey on the Barefoot School that is in Haiti. It should be very interesting to learn about the school and how people here are helping Haiti in so many ways.
Our scholarship recipient will be in attendance and you will meet Karissa Hamblen from Georgetown High School. She plans to attend the University of Cincinnati and pursue a career in Elementary Education. We hope to see many of you out to let her know that we are backing her and hope that she finds the field of
education interesting and that she will go a long way in her studies.
Please watch the Registration Table as you come in on June 26 because there will be a few changes for this meeting. If you have not paid your dues for this year we
would appreciate your paying those as you come in. Please try to be there a little before noon since we try to have our
prayer and pledge and eat at 12:00 noon so that we can be out of the building by 2 PM. Thanks.
We have found out that the Constitution for our BCRTA group was updated in 2005 according to ORTA but they do not have a copy of it. We are still looking for a
copy of the Constitution. In July the Executive Committee will be going over the copy of the Clinton County Association Constitution we have and we will need to get our BCRTA Constitution completed by the October meeting.
Please! Please! Read the newsletter and information you get from STRS and ORTA and keep up with the changes in your medical and the retirement. The Basic Plan has changed to $2250 deductible and $3700.00 out of pocket for In-Net Work. Out of Net Work is $4500.00 deductible and $7400.00 out of pocket. Express Scripts Plan is $200.00 deductible up from $150.00. Maximum per enrollee pays $4700.00. There are also proposed changes coming up on Part B. They plan to continue the Delta Dental and Vision Service Plan for the next 2 year period of 2015-2016.
There are proposed changes to STRS Ohio's Health Care Program for 2016, reducing subsidy multiples to 2.1% per year of service. Aetna Medical Plan
Changes include In-Network coverage changes to reducing deductible to $150.00 from $300.00 and increasing Skilled Nursing Home Health Care co-insurance to 2% from 0%. Out of Network - Out of pocket will increase to $2500.00 from $2000.00. Special physician co-pay is $55.00 from $50.00, skilled Home Health Nurse Care to 4% from 0% and Co-Insurance to 8% from 6%. You really need to keep "on top" of this now with so many Insurance changes in all areas and companies.
Also, things are changing in our Chapter. We have beautiful decorations on the tables to make our area a cheerful and bright area. You will be receiving
Birthday, Sympathy and Get Well Cards since we have a Public Relations person. Jan Crawford was willing to take on this area for us. We had a very interesting
meeting on April 24th with Mike Vogel. His talk and slides on the Appalachian Trail were very interesting. He explained what was in his backpack and how
he packed all of the items and why he packed the way he did. He had some special items that he used on all the trips. His pack weighed 30 pounds
to carry with him on each trip. We had some new faces at the April meeting. The food was great and plentiful and you can't find a meal such as
Jackie Fowler prepares for us for $10.00 anywhere else. Jackie out-does herself and we feel very blessed to have her as our caterer. Remember that we give away a
$25.00 Visa Card to one attendee at each meeting, so come out and get a ticket and see if you will be the lucky winner this time!
You might also want to check out the website that Sandy Eversole keeps up for us at www.browncountyretiredteachers.weebly.com. You can keep up with our
Association and any of the others you might be interested in by going to their websites as well.
Please call reservations in for the meal on June 26th by June 24th to Phyllis Paeltz at 937-382-1146, or you can e-mail or call Carolyn Carr at [email protected] or
937-446-3191. Please, try to let one of us know by Tuesday June 24th by 5:00 PM so that we can get in touch with Jackie with the numbers. Thanks very much.
We are trying to get our new retirees involved in our BCRTA; so if you know of someone that has recently retired invite them to come with you and enjoy a meal and
meeting with us to see what it is that we try to do. We need to build our membership up so that we can keep our association active.
We look forward to seeing a good group out for the June 26, 2014 meeting at noon. Bring your ideas along and share them with us as well!
