BCRTA April 2014 Newsletter
VOLUME XI
It is time for another year of meetings for our group of retired teachers and a time of getting together once again. We are looking forward to seeing many of you out again and hopefully many new faces and retirees who are willing to get involved in keeping up with information on what is
happening with education, STRS and ORTA and keeping everyone informed. School funding continues to be in the news. Ohio's school funding model has been declared unconstitutional four times. 80% of Ohio's school districts are scheduled to receive NO additional funds which includes the poorest
districts in Ohio's Appalachian Counties. With all the funding cuts it is evident that Ohio Public Schools continue to be understaffed and inadequately funded.
If you are doing any Volunteer work or community service, please keep track of those things that you do (maybe keep a calendar for this.), and the hours that you spend doing volunteer or community service so we can turn this into ORTA and get credit for our volunteer time. Butler County Retired Teachers turned in over 12,000 hours for last year.....They are a larger group than we are but we could get a lot of hours if we keep track of all the things each of us do to help others.
The Scholarship Applications were sent out to the schools in February to get ready for another student who may plan on going into the field of education. We are looking forward to getting several applications this year and plan to have a student chosen for this by our April meeting and get
to meet this student at our June meeting.
If you know of someone that plans to retire this year from Brown County Schools please let us know so we can send information out about our BCRTA meetings and invite them to join us. Membership is our goal to work on this year. We hope to bring back former members and have new members join us. If you have a retired teacher friend please invite them to come with you and encourage them to come out and join our time together and getting to visit with other retired teachers.
OUR APRIL 24,2014 MEETING: This will be held at the Campus of Southern Career and Technical Center (east of the main building), at 9321 Hamer Rd., Georgetown, Ohio 45121. The Brown County Educational Service Center has moved to this building and our meetings will now be held there. So
another incentive to come out and get to see the new facilities. Jackie Fowler will still be catering our meals for us and the charge has not changed. $10.00 per person for the delicious meals that Jackie always has ready for us at NOON. We need reservations for the meal so please call Phyllis Paeltz at
937-392-1146 or Carolyn Carr at 937-446-3191 or email her at [email protected]
