BROWN COUNTY RETIRED TEACHERS’ ASSOCIATION August 2015 Newsletter V0LUME XIII
The June meeting of BCRTA was held at the Brown County Educational Service Center with nineteen members and two visitors present.
We announced our 2015 scholarship winner, Jordan Dawson. Jordan is a graduate of Eastern High School and will be attending Northern Kentucky University this fall.
The program for the June meeting was Kelley Barone from STRS. She spoke about the upcoming changes in the health care benefits, retirement changes, and our transition to Medicare .
We are considering adding a second service project for our chapter. The following ideas were suggested: Kamp Dovetail, the Barefoot Library in Haiti, and the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Georgetown. Decisions will be made concerning this at the August meeting.
Elections will be held in October . The nominating committee is Marilyn Fryer (937-515-9075), Sue Bohrer ( 937-515-1046), and Lynda Roades (513-875-2212). If you are interested in running for an office, please contact one of these ladies prior to the October meeting.
Please remember to keep record of your volunteer hours and turn them in each month or wait until December and send to Linda Lawwill. In 2014, the chapter received a commendation for being in the top 12 chapters in the state for hours per member. We would like to improve on our standing for 2015.
At the August meeting we will vote on a change to our constitution . The change will be: Beginning January 1, 2016, duel active membership in both BCRTA and Ohio Retired Teachers' Association (ORTA) will be made available . Membership in both groups will be forty ($40.00). Thirty dollars ($30.00) going to ORTA and ten dollars ($10.00) going to BCRTA. This membership is a available only to new retirees who join after January 1, 2016. Duel membership is not mandatory, but is encouraged.
